Description

38mm aluminium transition profile with coarse grooves

Extra-flat version ✓ Suitable for damp rooms ✓ Also available in metallic ✓

The flat aluminium floor profile in 38mm width and 1000mm length is available in silver, brushed stainless steel, metallic anthracite, metallic grey and metallic bronze and is ideal for all solid floor coverings where no height difference needs to be compensated for at the transition. The profile is made of solid aluminium and is the flattest floor profile in our range with an overall height of 2.5mm. It has two 5mm wide adhesive strips on the back so that the profile can also be used without drilling into the floor. This adhesive adheres to all common floor coverings and is also suitable for many other materials such as wood, metal, stone and plastic (with the exception of polyolefins such as PE, PTFE or PP), so that it can also be used for decorative purposes.

The attractive colours of our anodized profiles are protected by a strong protective film. Each individual profile is shrink-wrapped to ensure that the visible surfaces are not scratched during storage, transportation or processing prior to installation. Another protective film on the bonding surfaces ensures that the profiles do not stick to the shrink film and that the bonding surfaces remain clean until the protective film is removed from the profile shortly before bonding.

TIP: Aluminium is very stable and yet very easy to process. This means that cutting can also be carried out easily with a small handsaw. For precise, absolutely straight cuts, however, a cross-cut and mitre saw is clearly the better choice.

Properties of the flat aluminium floor profile

Our floor profile made of anodized aluminium has 2 coarse grooves on the visible side, which divide the 38mm wide surface into approximately one third each. The surfaces of the transition profiles are fully coloured for an attractive appearance that blends in well with a wide variety of floor coverings. There is a choice of silver, brushed stainless steel and three metallic finishes in grey, anthracite or bronze. The 1.5mm thick bottom profile is reinforced with two fine grooves on the underside for optimum rigidity. This results in a total profile thickness of just 2.5mm, which is around half the height of our curved aluminium transition profiles. With a length of 1000mm, the flat profiles are perfect for covering joints and transitions within the door frame from one room to another. The flat floor profiles are particularly suitable for interior doors where there is little room for a transition profile.

The self-adhesive backing consists of a special adhesive that ensures extremely good adhesion to all smooth, non-porous surfaces. These include tiles, ceramics, natural stone, coated concrete, but also wood, wood-based materials, metal, painted or coated surfaces. The profile can therefore be used to visually connect two different floor coverings at the same height, but also as impact protection on walls and doors, as well as for decorating shelves, furniture fronts or drawers. The special feature of the metallic surfaces in particular, which have a certain glittering effect depending on the incidence of light, create an extremely high-quality and appealing effect as decorative profiles.

WARNING: Although the flat floor profiles are made of anodized aluminium, which guarantees outstanding resistance to weathering and corrosion, they are still only suitable for interior installation due to the self-adhesive nature of the material. Bonding also leads to restrictions when choosing floor coverings, so that the transition profiles can only be used for fixed or fully bonded floors where no height compensation is required. The reason for this is the heat-related expansion of the profiles or floor coverings, which can affect the bonding over the entire length of the profile. In cold outside temperatures, the aluminium profile should also be acclimatized to the room temperature for a while before it is firmly bonded to ensure that a change in length due to strong temperature fluctuations can be ruled out.

Application and installation of the self-adhesive aluminium floor profiles

Thanks to the self-adhesive properties with very good adhesion, the profiles can be installed without special tools and without drilling. All solid, non-porous floor coverings and substrates are suitable. In most cases, however, you will not be able to avoid shortening the profile when using it under the door leaf, so it must be cut to the size between the door frames. This can be done in seconds with a chop saw, but a simple hand saw, which is included in most well-stocked tool kits, will also suffice in a pinch. Just make sure that the saw blade is suitable for a light metal such as aluminium.

NOTE: Before bonding, the surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned and carefully dried so that the adhesive surfaces can achieve sufficient and permanent adhesion to the surfaces.

Once the surface is clean and dry, the yellow protective film covering the two adhesive surfaces can be completely removed. When positioning the floor profile, ensure that the adhesive surfaces only touch the floor when the profile is aligned as required. The best way to achieve this is to position the profile at an angle to one corner and then slowly and precisely guide the other corner towards the floor. Corrections can be made at any time up to the point at which the glued areas are in contact with the floor. After positioning the profile, press it down carefully along its entire length and, if necessary, weigh it down with loaded boxes, books or a bucket filled with water until the adhesive has reached the desired adhesive strength.

Application examples of our aluminium floor profiles with self-adhesive bonding

  • The floor profiles are only 2.5mm flat and are ideal for trip-free transitions within rooms
  • The aluminium profiles are perfect for covering joints and floor transitions up to approx. 25mm wide
  • The elegant look of the metallic profiles makes an attractive impression as a skirting board on the wall
  • The self-adhesive profile also enhances the side cut edges of kitchen worktops with a height of 38mm
  • The aluminium profile is ideal for door thresholds whose door leaf has a low ground clearance
