The 50mm wide self-adhesive aluminium floor profiles are available in silver or matt stainless steel. This makes the solid aluminium profiles ideal for quick and easy transitions between solid floor coverings with larger gaps of up to 35mm. The floor profiles are anodised in colour for an attractive appearance with improved corrosion resistance and have a smooth, continuous surface with a satin matt sheen, which is not impaired by perforations thanks to the self-adhesive system. The gentle curvature with an overall height of 5.5mm allows a trip-free transition from one floor covering to another.
To prevent damage to the flawlessly smooth surface during transport and storage, all our floor profiles are individually shrink-wrapped. This packaging consists of a robust, hard-wearing film that can be easily removed. The adhesive surfaces, which are applied along the outer edges on the back, are also protected by a separate protective film so that the adhesion is not impaired by dust and dirt. This is a special adhesive that can be used on almost all smooth, non-porous surfaces and adheres by pressing firmly onto the surface.
NOTE: The floor profiles are made of solid aluminium. This is a robust and rigid light metal that can be easily machined, for example by sawing. A cross-cut and mitre saw is the best choice for shortening, as this guarantees a straight cut through the 50mm wide profile. However, if such a saw is not available, the 1.8mm thick aluminium profile can also be easily cut by hand. A standard hacksaw with a metal saw blade is sufficient for this purpose.
The 50mm floor profiles with a length of 1000mm have a smooth surface with a slightly curved profile shape and are made of solid aluminium. The extruded aluminium is anodised in colour to create a flawlessly smooth surface with a silky matt sheen in a silver or stainless steel look. This anodised layer, which is created by anodic oxidation, not only improves corrosion resistance, but is also extremely resistant to wear and tear, so that the beautiful surfaces remain intact for a very long time. With a width of 50mm, it is also possible to conceal wider transitions between two floor coverings, for example if the parquet layer or tiler has not worked quite so precisely in the area of the door threshold.
The aluminium floor profile is equipped with two approximately 5mm wide adhesive surfaces on the back, consisting of a very powerful special adhesive, which are covered by a yellow protective film when delivered. This adhesive adheres to all typical forms of non-porous floor coverings in the construction sector and can be used for all permanently laid or bonded floors. These include tiles, parquet, linoleum, natural stone and fully bonded designer vinyl flooring. However, it should be noted that the profiles are not suitable, or only suitable to a limited extent, for surfaces with different thicknesses where a difference in height needs to be levelled out. The self-adhesive profile can also not be used for carpets or laminate or vinyl floor panels that are laid as a floating installation.
WARNING: Although aluminium is corrosion-resistant and even more suitable for outdoor use thanks to the anodised layer, the bond can deteriorate if the temperature fluctuates significantly. This is due to the slight changes in the length of the metal caused by the effects of heat or cold. Such changes can also have an effect on the adhesive strength indoors, especially with floating floor coverings such as laminate or click vinyl, which is why the self-adhesive floor profiles are only suitable indoors for permanently laid or glued installation surfaces. In addition, it is advisable, especially in winter, to allow the profile to acclimatise to room temperature before applying it.
The 50mm wide floor profile allows a gap of around 35mm to be covered between two floor coverings. The profile is simply glued lengthways onto the subfloor and pressed down firmly. The adhesive adheres to all solid substrates that are frequently used as floor coverings. However, the wide aluminium floor profile is not suitable for carpets, laminate, click vinyl or other floating floor coverings, or for transitions between floors of different thicknesses where height compensation is required. If the profile needs to be shortened to the required size, a hand saw is sufficient. The light metal can also be cut to size very easily by hand. However, a chop saw makes it much easier to cut the 50mm precisely and straight through.
If the wide profiles are glued to the base of cupboards, shelves and other furniture in the home or office, they very effectively prevent dirt abrasion or damage caused by office swivel chairs, walking frames or wheelchairs and also provide good surface protection when using robotic hoovers. Of course, the profiles can also be used as decorative profiles for furniture fronts for purely visual purposes and, thanks to the self-adhesive properties, the lightweight aluminium profile also adheres reliably to almost all smooth, even surfaces made of veneer, real wood or plastic, with the exception of PE or PP-coated surfaces.
NOTE: A floor profile must be able to withstand high mechanical loads. The demands on the adhesive are therefore very high. It is also extremely reliable on all levels, closed substrates, but the adhesive strength can be reduced by dirt or moisture during application. It is therefore highly advisable to carefully clean and dry all affected surfaces before applying the profile.
Once the preparations have been completed and the profiles have been cut to size, if necessary, the protective film can be removed from the adhesive surfaces and the profile can be attached to the substrate by pressing it firmly into place. Sometimes an additional weight can improve the adhesion of the profile for a short time, but in most cases, this is not necessary. To ensure that the floor profile is applied straight and precisely in the desired area, it can be helpful to peel off the film just a little so that it does not adhere along its entire length when it comes into contact with the floor. This allows the profile to be easily aligned. If everything fits, simply pull the film away from under the profile and press the exposed adhesive strip onto the top of the profile at the same time. Finally, press firmly once along the entire length and the profile will stick securely in place.
