Castor with M8 thread for construction profiles

With and without brakes ✓ up to 150kg load capacity ✓ soft running surface ✓

Our Ø 60mm swivel castors for construction profiles with M8 thread are available with or without a parking brake. Both the housing and the 25mm long thread are made of high-strength carbon steel, with all steel components protected against corrosion by galvanising the surface. Only the housing has a robust black finish for a more attractive appearance. We use high-quality polyurethane for the 60mm large rollers with the 20mm wide running surfaces. This is a very wear-resistant material that does not leave any abrasion marks on the ground in the form of visible black stripes and can also be used for outdoor projects due to its very good UV and weather resistance. The swivel plate and wheel are each equipped with two ball bearings to ensure smooth operation of the 360° rotating castors, as well as consistently good rolling performance, while easily withstanding the high load capacity of up to 150 kg.

The swivel castors are also available in various sets offering a price advantage. Each set contains four swivel castors that differ only in the castor design. You can choose between four castors without brakes, a set of four swivel castors with locking brake, or a set with two castors with and two without brake.

Scope of delivery:

  • 1 x castor with M8x25mm thread (with or without brake)

NOTE: The information on load capacity does not refer to the permissible weight load of a single caster, but is based on the calculation of four rollers.

Properties of our swivel castors for construction profiles

Our swivel castors are available with or without a parking brake. The compact, smooth-running castors have a diameter of 60mm and a width of 20mm, with treads made of high-quality polyurethane. This makes the castors extremely wear-resistant, with a high load capacity and excellent rolling properties on smooth and firm surfaces. Due to their small diameter, however, the swivel castors are less suitable for uneven surfaces, unsurfaced paths and thresholds. A major advantage over nylon (polyamide) castors is the very good UV and weather resistance of the PU running surfaces. This means that the castors can also be used outdoors without hesitation, for example for roller shutters made of construction profiles, rollable patio furniture or modular outdoor kitchens. The double ball bearings ensure that the silky-smooth rolling performance is fully maintained. The swivel plate is also equipped with ball bearings. This allows the castor to turn 360 degrees. It enables the structures to be manoeuvred and pushed even in the tightest of spaces. An offset of 20 mm, measured from the centre of the castor to the centre of the swivel plate, ensures that the castors can also follow quick changes of direction.

In order to connect the guide rollers securely and resiliently to the construction profiles, the roller is equipped with a thread made of high-strength carbon steel. The end facing the housing is firmly pressed so that the connection does not fail even at the maximum permissible load. A ball bearing on the upper side, as well as another on the underside of the guide plate, ensures that the roller turns smoothly in the long term. The thread itself has a diameter of 8mm and a length of 25mm. A screw-in nut that is firmly attached to the thread makes it easy to screw it into the internal thread of the through-hole. A spanner with a 14mm jaw width is required for this. Please note that the construction profile either already has a through-hole with an M8 internal thread, or that this is sufficient in size to cut the thread afterwards, as is the case with our construction profiles in size 30x30mm, groove 8 or 40x40mm, groove 8. For these two profile sizes, the diameter of the clearance hole has been deliberately chosen to be 6.8mm so that the thread can be screwed in directly without prior drilling. However, it is not possible to use these castors with the 20mm profile, as the clearance hole with a diameter of 5.1mm is designed for an internal thread of size M6.

NOTE: If the swivel castors are to be used for constructions with a fixed overall height, the minimum height of 60 mm with maximum screw-in depth of the thread must be taken into account, so that the profiles into which the swivel castors are screwed must be shortened by the required amount. For profile constructions where the maximum height plays a subordinate role, this does not necessarily have to be taken into account.

Installation of application of threaded guide rollers

Our lockable castors make it possible to transform almost any aluminium construction profile into a mobile construction for maximum comfort and flexibility in just a few simple steps. If necessary, the through-hole must be provided with an internal thread. However, aluminium is very easy to work with, so a standard internal thread-cutting set with a handle is sufficient. In the next step, the castor is screwed into the thread. While this can be done easily by turning the foot in the case of a levelling foot, it is only possible with a spanner in the case of a swivel castor. To do this, turn the nut connected to the thread clockwise until the thread has reached the desired screw-in depth. However, it should be screwed at least 20mm into the profile to ensure sufficient load capacity. Finally, the rollable construction can be placed on the floor and aligned by fine-tuning the individual castors so that all castors are in even contact with the floor.

When using the model with a parking brake, the construction can be secured against rolling away by applying the brake. To do this, the folding handle must be pressed down gently until the lock engages and the castor is fixed. By lifting the handle, the castor can be released again and the construction can be moved again. When the brake is applied, not only the castor but also the swivel plate is fixed, thus keeping the 360° swivel function in a fixed position so that the entire construction cannot shift around the axis of the fixed castor.

TIP: Similar to the adjustable feet, the height of the castors can also be adjusted very precisely to ensure that all castors are in contact with the floor. This can be particularly advantageous for machines and measuring equipment that can be moved around the room, allowing them to be perfectly levelled by adjusting the height after the construction has been moved to the desired location.

Castors are always useful when a heavy, bulky object needs to be moved regularly. Starting with simple transport cases, for example for transporting DJ equipment or for storing instruments, to machines and devices that are often used at several workstations within a company, to outdoor kitchens or garden furniture that finds its way onto the terrace when the weather is nice and should be moved under the intended roof when the weather is bad. The castors are also practical and versatile for countless projects in the do-it-yourself sector. For example, to create additional storage space under the bed using large, roll-fronted drawers that can be easily made with construction profiles, a chop saw and a few connectors. MDF boards can be used as the floor and side panelling, because they are not only inexpensive but can also be easily painted or covered with a decorative film to match the furniture in the bedroom. Another example for indoor use is rollable shelves with variable bases for light-hungry house plants that can be easily rolled away from the window into the room for easier plant care or to avoid drafts when airing.

Examples of applications for our swivelling castors

  • The swivel castors are perfect for tool trolleys and organisation systems in workshops and service vehicles
  • The free-rolling castors allow patio furniture and outdoor kitchens to be manoeuvred in the tightest of spaces
  • The locking mechanism of the roller and guide plate fixes measuring devices extremely reliably in place
  • The high system load capacity enables it to be used for larger device designs made of system profiles
  • The 360° swivel castors can also be used as furniture castors with drive-in or ramp nuts
