Our construction profiles 40x40 groove 8 made of aluminium are optionally available in 2000mm, 1000mm or in millimetre-accurate cuts. Both the width and the depth of the square groove profile are 40mm. The outer corners are rounded off in a radius of 4.5mm. However, this rounding has no effect on the load-bearing capacity of the sturdy aluminium profiles. It is mainly used for compatibility with I-type system profiles, as well as for a more appealing look. For a flawless surface, the profiles are silver anodised. This creates an even colouring in aluminium silver with a satin-matt surface gloss. An additional surface protection is assured by the anodising, which improves the already very good resistance to weathering even further. It results in the construction profiles being suitable for indoor applications as well as for long-term outdoor use without hesitation. The robust system profiles are therefore particularly in demand for the construction of carports, bicycle or waste container shelters. Also an excellent fit applies for the construction of light, stable pavilions.
Our 40mm wide construction profiles combine a very low dead weight with a high rigidity, which is confirmed above all by the second moment of area and the section modulus, which are important for construction profiles with a load-bearing function. This is possible thanks to the use of a high-quality aluminium alloy of the type 6063 T5, which has excellent mechanical properties. The corrosion resistance of the alloy is also impressive. The resistance is increasingly improved by the silver anodisation. So, the profiles are suitable for the construction of light, stable pavilions or roofs, or as a frame construction for photovoltaic modules, as well.
NOTE: To maximise the application possibilities of the construction profiles in 40x40mm with 8mm groove width, countless system components are available in our online shop. From internal profile connectors or mounting brackets, to reinforced brackets for screw mounting, to profile connectors with variable angles. Everything you need for assembling the basic framework is available. Our range also leaves nothing to be desired when it comes to mounting table tops, furniture panels, cladding, cable ducts, lighting, etc. The accessories can be used equally for our construction profiles and for I-type profiles, such as item®- system profiles.
The construction profiles in silver are made of corrosion-resistant aluminium that is anodised in aluminium silver. These are manufactured for us in a length of 2005mm. In our online shop, however, we offer the profiles not only in the standard length, but also cut to 1 metre, as well as cut to the millimetre, so that the profiles can be ordered directly in the desired size. With an edge width of 40mm for width and depth, the square profile is one of the most commonly used sizes for durable and resilient constructions of various kinds. As is usual for construction profiles of the I-type system, the outer corners of our aluminium profiles are rounded. The corner radius is 4.5mm and contributes to an appealing appearance. However, the main reason for the rounded corners is not the appearance, but the compatibility with common I-type profiles such as the item®- system profiles. This makes our assembly profiles perfectly suited to improve or expand existing constructions, regardless of whether the construction profiles are to be used in the protected interior or are exposed to the different weather conditions outdoors. This is possible, on the one hand, due to the high-quality aluminium alloy, which is characterised by very good corrosion resistance, and, on the other hand, due to the anodised surfaces. The comnination further increases the protection of the surfaces against weathering. Anodisation also achieves a uniform, smooth surface in aluminium silver with a satin finish, so that the profiles can also be used for visual purposes. For example, to make individual items of office furniture or shelving systems in the dressing room.
The construction profile 40x40 groove 8 is not only the one with the largest dimensions in our online shop, but also the most stable. This seems logical, since the total weight also changes with the use of more aluminium with a larger profile in the same length, but it has more to do with the profile thickness in the respective individual areas, as well as the profile construction in the cross-section. Our profiles are relatively light, weighing just 1,207kg/m. Yet, they still impress with excellent values for deflection resistance and torsional rigidity. Expressed in figures, this means that the moment of inertia (Ix, Iy), which stands for stability against twisting around its own axis, with 7,17cm4 displays a significant figure. The situation is similar with the flexural rigidity against deformation due to the applied load. The so-called section modulus (Ix, Iy), which mounts up to a value of 3,58cm3.The fact that the values for the X- and Y-axes are identical is because they are square construction profiles with a symmetrical arrangement. These are manufactured from a high-quality EN AW 6063 T5 alloy aluminium in an extrusion process. The manufacturing process is not only subject to EU standard EN 12020 (Extruded precision profiles of aluminium alloys EN AW-6060 and EN AW-6063 - Part 2: Tolerances on dimensions and form), but also to strict quality controls during and after production, in order to ensure a consistently high quality in terms of dimensional accuracy and surface quality. The fact that the 2-metre profiles are manufactured in 2005mm lengths is, however, our special request. On the one hand, the nominal length of 2 metres is never exceeded due to the 5mm plus tolerance, and on the other hand, this allows us to divide the profiles into two individual metre lengths without any section being shorter than 1000mm due to the saw blade thickness, which of course also has an effect on the cost-effectiveness and sustainability and ultimately on the final price.
Construction profiles are special, if not unique, due to their design with open grooves that extend over the entire length of the profile. In our 40mm profiles, the grooves are 8mm wide and located in the middle of the profile width on each side. This means that profiles, handles, hinges or attachments can be attached to all four sides in any position. Also, they can be securely fastened with simple tools such as angle brackets, sliding blocks or hammer head screws with a thread, and can be changed at any time. The depth of the groove in our mounting profiles is 14.5 mm. This is useful if fastenings with cylinder screws with a slightly higher thread length are to be used, but it is also important to know. Especially when using profile connectors or sliding blocks with spring balls, which are held in position by spring-loaded steel balls inside the profile rail. They make screwing in the screw easier without the risk of the sliding block slipping. These system components are available in different versions for 8mm slot widths. One version has a depth that is matched to the 30x30 slot 8 construction profile and another for the 40mm profile with a higher slot depth.
The so-called clearance hole in the centre of the profile appears unassuming, but is extremely helpful in a variety of ways. The simplest application is the inclusion of a plastic cover. It is inserted into the hole with a clamping mandrel, thus covering the profile ends. The cover protects the floor when the profile is used with the cut edge as a storage area. It also protects against injuries, as most sharp-edged profile ends are covered in this way. The clearance hole with a diameter of 6.8 mm is perfectly sized for cutting internal threads in size M8, which also allows adjustable feet with threaded rods to be screwed in to precisely level the construction. As an alternative to levelling feet, our swivel castors, which we offer with or without a parking brake, can also be screwed into the thread, for example to flexibly move heavy, bulky machines within the production facility from one place to another. Another example of the use of a through-hole is adjustable profile connections with our adjustable angle brackets, which are screwed into the through-hole with cylinder head screws. This method can be used to construct large inspection openings, angle-adjustable substructures for photovoltaic systems on a flat roof, or even roofs and shelters with the necessary slope for rainwater drainage.
Aluminium mounting profiles are in high demand in industry and trade and are also becoming increasingly popular with DIYers and hobbyists, because the profiles are very easy to work with and offer countless possibilities for constructing individual designs for a wide range of requirements with little effort. The system profiles with a 40mm edge width are among the most commonly used profiles in equipment construction and for the construction of industrial machines and production robots due to their enormous stability and attractive appearance. The fact that the profiles can also be used outdoors without hesitation is also demonstrated by their use as supporting structures for lightweight tents, canopies and shelters.
A construction profile alone, whether in standard lengths or cut to size, is of little use. It is the extensive range of accessories, from T-slot grooves and profile connectors to swivel rollers and feet, that makes it a versatile and modular system that can be adapted and expanded to meet your needs at any time with simple screw connections. No special tools are required. Depending on the type of system component, a simple Allen®-key is sufficient, which is needed, for example, to tighten the grub screws on internal profile connectors and mounting brackets. A standard spanner with a width across flats of 14 mm is required to tighten the lock grooves of our height-adjustable feet with threaded rods. However, in order to screw this into the clearance hole, the hole must first be provided with an internal thread. An M8 tap is the right choice for this.
TIP: Thanks to our cutting service, we can offer the construction profiles in 40x40mm cut to the exact millimetre, so there is no need to shorten the profiles. If the dimensions are not known or whole lengths are ordered and cutting is required, we recommend a chop saw, as this provides the best results for a straight, right-angled cut with a clean cross-section. In a pinch, however, a normal hacksaw with a metal saw blade will also do, as aluminium can be sawed almost effortlessly by hand.
Construction profiles are indispensable in plant engineering because they are very easy to work with and extremely versatile. They can be used for protective devices, machine covers and housings with maintenance access for technicians, as well as for the machines themselves. Typical examples are large production lines in the manufacturing industry, where several individual machines are sometimes used in succession to turn raw materials into finished end products. This could be the extrusion of plastic plates, or a recycling line for plastic waste. The use of construction profiles also makes it possible to set up a filling plant for liquids or a baking line in large bakeries. With the appropriate cladding of the basic construction, the machines are not only more visually appealing, but also significantly safer, because reaching into production processes is prevented. Above all, the torsional strength of the 40mm construction profiles is an important aspect, because most machines in industries are subject to high mechanical stress and must therefore be extremely stable. We also use machines that have been made from such profiles. These include, among other things, large 3-axis CNC milling machines, where accuracy is of the utmost importance for very low tolerances when manufacturing CNC-milled parts from our plastic sheets. We did not construct these ourselves, but we have been using them with great reliability for years.
As a construction profile that can be used outdoors without hesitation, complex roofing constructions are also possible. The 40mm profile has excellent mechanical strength properties, so that pavilions in the garden, carports or load-bearing substructures.
Outdoor kitchens are in high demand in times when outdoor living is becoming increasingly popular, but they are often never quite suitable or very expensive. With the robust construction profiles, the base frames for barbecues, sinks and storage surfaces can be quickly and easily constructed without any special technical skills and, depending on personal taste, covered with decorative panels. With the appropriate hinges, it is even possible to create side panels and fronts in the outdoor kitchen to store utensils such as gas cartridges, charcoal or crockery cleanly and dryly. Even a refrigerator can be seamlessly integrated into the design of the outdoor kitchen in this way. Of course, this requires that fronts are desired, because a self-assembled outdoor kitchen is of course also an eye-catcher in any garden without cladding. Whether gas or charcoal grill hardly plays a significant role, because aluminium is extremely heat-resistant and can withstand temperatures of more than 600°C. However, care should also be taken to ensure that the panels used for cladding have sufficient heat resistance if they could be in direct contact with the hot grill.
