Aluminium U-profiles in dust grey (RAL7037) for edge finishing

Weather-resistant paint finish ✓ Very low weight ✓ High rigidity ✓

Our aluminium U-profiles with a high-quality powder coating in dusty grey (RAL 7037) are used as a finishing profile to cover edges and thus contribute to a better appearance. Uneven cuts, as well as edge splintering, which cannot always be completely avoided when sawing, are concealed in a particularly attractive way with the lightweight aluminium profile. In addition, most of the darker cut surfaces, the so-called core, of HPL panels or aluminium composite panels are covered so that they no longer stand out visually. The profiles are manufactured with a profile thickness of 1.1mm in a standard length of 2005mm from corrosion-resistant aluminium in an EN AW 6063 T6 alloy. This makes them suitable for all indoor and outdoor applications and they can also be used permanently in damp rooms.

We offer the dusty grey U-profiles in three different clamping ranges for panels with a total thickness of 3mm, 6mm or 8mm. They are also available in production lengths of 2 metres or cut to size in one metre lengths at favourable prices.

The profiles look extremely unobtrusive when used tone-on-tone. This is due to the very low profile thickness of just 1.1mm, which enables a very flat projection from the profile to the panel surface. This is made possible by the production from solid aluminium in an EN AW 6063 T6 alloy without compromising the inherent rigidity of the profiles. Further advantages associated with the low profile thickness are easy cleaning without dirt accumulating in the flat edge transition and very simple processing by cutting the end profiles to size. These can also be shortened effortlessly using a standard hacksaw.

NOTE: Our dusty grey aluminium U-profiles are available in three different clamping ranges from 3mm to 8mm and are ideal for visually finishing cut edges. The colour-matching H-profiles for connecting panels are available in identical clamping thicknesses. These are available in the production length of 2005mm, as well as cut to 1 metre lengths at favourable prices.

Properties of the U-profile with powder coating in dusty grey

With our end profiles, we offer a simple and effective way of visually enhancing façade cladding. We deliberately use a solid construction made of a high-quality aluminium alloy (EN AW 6063 T6), which has outstanding corrosion resistance and very good stability combined with low weight and low profile thickness. The extruded profiles are then finished all round with a powder-coated finish so that they perfectly match the colour of the coveted façade panels made of high-pressure laminate in RAL7037. However, this does not mean that the end profiles have to be used exclusively for our dusty grey HPL panels. Neither the material nor the individual thickness of a panel is relevant, as long as the overall thickness matches the clamping area of the profile. The dusty grey end profiles can therefore be used to produce individual picture frames. For a 6mm profile, a 3mm thick plastic panel in white for the back wall and a 3mm thick acrylic glass panel as protective glass would be a conceivably good combination.

Our dusty grey end profiles in RAL 7037 are available with a clamping range of 3mm, 6mm or 8mm and are therefore perfect for aluminium composite panels, HPL or fibre cement panels. Depending on the quality and manufacturer, the panels are subject to certain thickness tolerances, so we deliberately use a plus tolerance for the end profiles, which means that the maximum possible clamping range is 0.5mm higher. This ensures that the profiles can be pushed or inserted onto the cut edge of all panels without any problems and without the fluctuating panel thickness having an effect. The production length of our powder-coated U-profiles is always 2000mm (plus 5mm length tolerance), regardless of the clamping area or colour version. The profile thickness of all our façade profiles is also 1.1mm, which ensures a perfect balance between weight, appearance and bending stiffness.

The U-profiles have a wider mounting surface and a narrower visible side. These are the same for all clamping areas. The width of the rear mounting surface is 20mm from the outside and 18.9mm from the inside. The front is 12mm wide on the outside and 10.9mm on the inside. The U-profiles are painted completely in dusty grey so that the end profile can also be used to cover wide edge chipping, uneven cuts or simply because it is more pleasing to use the rear side as the visible profile side. A scratch-resistant powder coating is used for this. We also use UV and weather-resistant paints for the aluminium profiles so that the rather dark grey tone of the dusty grey profiles does not fade due to UV radiation or other weather influences. The U-profiles are manufactured according to our design drawings by a German manufacturer under strict specifications in accordance with the EN 12020 standard (extruded precision profiles made of alloys EN AW-6060 and EN AW-6063). This guarantees compliance with dimensional accuracy and colour fidelity, which is checked again by our quality assurance department on receipt of the goods so that we can always guarantee you consistent first-class quality.

Application and installation of the aluminium U-profiles in dusty grey

Our aluminium profiles are primarily intended for use for visual purposes in exterior façade cladding, so it is hardly surprising that they also have a robust powder coating with very good UV and weather resistance. The dusty grey edging profiles are precisely matched in colour and surface gloss to our dust grey HPL panels cut to size. The U-profiles with a 6mm or 8mm clamping range are particularly suitable for covering the dark core of the medium grey panels, as well as edge splinters on sawn edges. The profiles are simply clipped onto the edge of the board. The same applies to free-standing constructions as privacy screens, interior partition walls or balcony surrounds. The profiles can also be used to reinforce fewer rigid panels. The profiles are also perfect for finishing off large shower rear walls or wall panelling and chamfering in interior areas, and can also be used without hesitation in wet rooms such as bathrooms, saunas or swimming pools thanks to their excellent corrosion resistance.

TIP: Long U-profiles are advantageous in most areas of application. From façade cladding and privacy screens to the end of a laminate stair tread, profiles longer than one metre are often required, which is why we have them manufactured in two metre lengths. However, cutting the light metal profiles to size is no problem at all with a simple saw or mitre saw, as long as the saw blade has fine enough teeth.

The specific application for which the dusty grey edging profiles are to be used determines how they are installed. There are three main types of installation to choose from. The simplest is push-on or slide-on. This is particularly the case for large-scale exterior wall panelling with façade panels, where constraint-free installation is required due to thermal linear expansion. Bonding with a permanently elastic assembly adhesive, such as an MS polymer, is also possible here, as well as for applications to increase the rigidity of thin panel thicknesses when used as partition walls or privacy screens indoors. For this purpose, there is a small groove on the inside of the mounting surface, which serves both as a guide for applying the adhesive and to improve the structure of the bond. Last but not least, screwing is a permanent and secure method of installation. This requires a small HSS drill bit and suitable screws, the length of which should be matched to the profile so that the screws do not protrude on the other side, which could pose a risk of injury. The groove in the profile is also extremely helpful here to ensure that the small holes are always positioned exactly at the same edge distance. The edge distance is selected in such a way that the risk of edge chipping of the drill holes in the panel is reduced. When used as a finishing profile for floor coverings or skirting boards, the profile should be glued to the substrate with the outer side. This prevents the aluminium profile from shifting when the laminate or tile is inserted inside the profile.

Application examples of our dust-grey aluminium end profiles

  • The dusty grey end profiles are perfectly colour-coordinated with our HPL panels in dusty grey
  • The profiles conceal unclean cuts and splintered edges caused by sawing and straighten the edge
  • The profiles can be glued to the wall or behind furniture for decentralised lighting with LED strips
  • The dusty grey powder-coated profiles increase the rigidity of panels with lower inherent rigidity
  • The thin U-profiles are ideal for edging skirting boards and floor coverings in dark grey tones
