Our aluminium U-profiles are made of solid aluminium with a profile thickness of 1.1mm and are then anodised for optimum protection against the weather using the so-called anodising process. The silver profiles, which we stock with 3mm, 6mm and 8mm clamping range, are ideal as end profiles for covering edges in a wide range of applications, from wall cladding, wall and floor tiles or even laminate and vinyl flooring.
Due to the low profile thickness, the profiles with a length of 2000mm can be very easily shortened to the required dimension. The low thickness also has the advantage that the dead weight of the profiles is very low and yet contributes to a significant increase in bending stiffness, which is sometimes quite low, especially with some plastic panels with 3mm panel thickness.
NOTE: Our U-profiles are available in a length of 2000mm with a clamping range of 3mm, 6mm or 8mm. In addition, we also offer H-profiles and outer corner profiles for panels with identical clamping range made of anodised aluminium at favourable prices.
For our aluminium end profiles, we rely exclusively on high-quality EN AW 6063 T6 aluminium, which is already characterised by very good corrosion resistance even without additional surface finishing. This alloy, which is also known colloquially as architectural aluminium, can be used outdoors without hesitation and is mainly used for construction profiles and pipes. With our silver U-profiles, an additional protective layer is applied to the smooth, silver surfaces by means of the so-called anodising process. Through this process of surface treatment, we achieve the greatest possible protection against corrosion, so that environmental and weather influences have no effect on the longevity of the decorative profiles.
The standard length of the U-profiles is always 2005mm, regardless of the clamping range. The total width of 20mm, as well as the visible area of the profile with a width of 12mm, is also identical for all end profiles. The profile depth on the outside, however, varies from 5.7mm to 10.7mm and results from the different clamping areas plus the profile thickness of 1.1mm on the front and back of the profile. The profiles are manufactured under strict quality controls with very low manufacturing tolerances in accordance with the EN 12020 standard (extruded precision profiles made of EN AW-6060 and EN AW-6063 alloys). To exclude sharp edges at the profile corners, all corners are rounded with a radius of 0.2mm. However, this radius turns out so small that the profile edge appears optically rectangular.
Anodised aluminium is characterised by outstanding corrosion resistance. This is an essential property if the U-profiles are to be used outdoors. Weatherproof materials are required especially for edge covers of aluminium composite panels or HPL panels as a facade system. Here, a U-profile fulfils several typical requirements at once, because on the one hand, odd cut edges are covered so that a homogeneous straight line is created by the profile, and on the other hand, deviating colours are also hidden in the core of a panel. Especially the core of black polyethylene, which is typical for aluminium composite and aluminium Dibond panels, or the dark core of HPL panels, can be visually enhanced with the silver profiles. The profiles are simply attached to the cut edges of the panels after they have been trimmed and deburred to the desired dimensions.
TIP: We currently only stock the silver aluminium U-profiles in the standard length of 2 metres. A simple hand saw with a metal saw blade is sufficient for shortening the end profiles. For a precise cutting result, especially when cutting to mitre, we recommend using a mitre saw with a suitable saw blade.
Depending on the area of application, an additional bonding with an MS polymer is helpful for an optimal hold without slipping of the profiles. Especially for panels with a smooth surface, as is the case with aluminium composite panels, acrylic glass panels or conventional glass, bonding can be extremely useful. When used as an edge profile on facade cladding with HPL panels, bonding is only possible for fixing at one point. The reason for this is the constraint-free installation of facade panels, which is absolutely necessary for thermal expansion of the panels. The profiles are provided with a groove on the inside of the mounting surface, which contributes to improved adhesion of the adhesive mass. At the same time, this minimal recess also serves as a guide groove for the application of an adhesive and sealant.
