Our balcony screws made of stainless steel with M5 thread, consist of a high quality A2 stainless steel alloy. This alloy is weatherproof and rustproof, so that the screws can be used indoors and outdoors without hesitation. In addition, stainless steel also allows the installation of partitions in damp rooms, for example for changing rooms or shower partitions in swimming pools or sports clubs. The lenticular screw head has a diameter of 16mm and has a safe Torx drive. The diameter of the screw thread is 5mm. The length of the metric thread varies depending on the chosen version of the balcony screw and affects the possible clamping range for mounting the desired panels.
No matter how many balcony screws you need for your project - you can buy any number from us without minimum quantities or fixed packaging units. Even if you only need a single screw. You benefit from substantial quantity discounts of up to 30%, which are automatically taken into account depending on your order quantity.
TIP: For screwing the stainless steel screws you need a Torx bit in size T20 and for the cap nut a 8mm spanner. Neither the bit attachment nor the spanner are part of the scope of delivery.
Our balcony screws consist of five individual elements. Two washers, one of which is made of plastic with self-adhesive, a spring washer, a cap nut and the balcony screw itself, the size of which varies depending on your selection. All individual parts are made of solid stainless steel, which is characterised by very good resistance to corrosion and acids. The only exception is the self-adhesive poly disc, which is made of a weather-resistant plastic and is glued between the substructure and the cladding panel. The size specification of our balcony screws always refers to the thread length of the screw, which gives information about the possible clamping range and not to the total length including cap nut and screw head. However, the total length of the screw can be determined very easily by adding 2mm to the thread length for the screw head. A balcony screw in the size M5 x 20mm thus has a total length of approx. 22mm plus cap nut.
Safety when installing balcony cladding is the most important aspect
Loosening of the screws due to vibration or impact must therefore be avoided at all times. We play it safe with our balcony screws so that they are doubly secured against loosening the cap nut. During the manufacturing process of the screws, a special locking lacquer is applied in the thread area, to which the cap nut is screwed. In addition, a spring washer made of stainless steel ensures that the cap nut cannot be unscrewed by itself. This is inserted between the stainless steel washer and the cap nut itself.
Our balcony screws do not have a weatherproof and UV-resistant lacquering of the screw head, but due to the material selection of a high-quality A2 stainless steel alloy, the head lacquering is also not necessary if the screws are to be used outdoors.
When using balcony screws with cap nuts, it is important to pay attention to the clamping area, which is determined by the thickness of the panel material used and the thickness of the substructure. Depending on the thread length of the screws, the minimum and maximum values for the clamping range also vary.
The unpainted threaded screws with self-locking cap nuts are perfectly suited for mounting our HPL panels as balcony cladding. Regardless of the chosen colour of the decorative surface, all our HPL panels meet the strict requirements of the ETB guideline "Components that prevent falls". When screwing the balcony screws, it is important that they are reached from both sides, because the cap nut on the opposite side is screwed with the threaded screw. However, this is usually guaranteed with balcony railings. Usually, the mounting points for the balcony cladding panels are also already specified for balcony railings, which makes it very easy to determine the required number of balcony screws. If you want or need to determine the fixing yourself, we strongly recommend that you read the installation instructions for the cladding panels and the substructure in advance.
If you use the balcony screws for mounting HPL panels as balcony edging, you should select a tightening torque of 2Nm - 4Nm when tightening the cap nut to ensure a constraint-free installation. In addition, when installing HPL, you should always pay attention to thermal expansion, so that one fastening is always selected as the fixed point and the remaining fastenings as sliding points. This prevents the HPL panels from expanding and deforming due to the effects of heat. This requires drill holes that are larger than the thread diameter of the screw. For drilling holes in the panels, we recommend a drill with a diameter of 8mm. However, the larger hole is easily covered at all times by the screw head with 16mm diameter. For HPL panels we also recommend a special solid carbide facade panel drill, which prevents the edges of the drill holes from tearing out.
In contrast to our balcony screws in RAL, the screws without head coating are not matched to a special HPL panel from our online shop and can therefore be used as desired with our extensive range of plastic panels. You are not limited to the construction of a balcony perimeter. The screws can be used wherever an assembly is accessible from both sides so that the screw head and cap nut can be screwed together. The screws are also suitable for mounting panels made of solid metal, for example aluminium or stainless steel. Even wood can be screwed together with these screws, or on a suitable substructure, provided that the clamping range is neither exceeded nor undercut.
TIP: The stainless steel balcony screws are perfect for balcony cladding, regardless of the colour of the panel material used. However, it should be noted that the cladding panels have the necessary ETB approval, which is mandatory for balcony cladding panels. This ETB guideline is fulfilled by all HPL panels that we offer in our online shop.
