Our T-Slot Nuts with spring balls are available in different versions for construction profiles with 6mm or 8mm slot width. In addition, the wide T-Slot Nuts are also available in different sizes with regard to the internal thread, which has a thread diameter of either 4mm or 5mm for the small 6mm T-Slot Nut. The 8mm version is also available with M6 and M8 size threads. Thanks to their compatibility with I-system construction profiles (e.g. item® system profiles), our T-Slot Nuts and profiles are also suitable for expanding existing constructions. Thanks to the use of carbon steel, which is characterised by outstanding strength, in combination with the widened contact surface, the T-nut with spring ball allows higher individual loads than a simple T-nut. The additional nickel coating also allows for use in humid environments and outdoors, as this surface coating ensures good corrosion resistance of the steel.

The spring-loaded steel ball holds the slot nut in position, but it can still be easily moved within the slot if necessary. This is particularly advantageous when attaching components, hinges or angle connectors to vertical construction profiles and makes assembly significantly easier. The larger contact surface distributes tensile and shear forces over a larger area on the profile, which helps to significantly reduce the risk of notches or deformation of the grooves at higher loads.

NOTE: The slot nuts are compatible with I-System profiles. The only requirement is to take into account the slot width and slot depth so that they can be inserted into the profile. If the slot depth of the profile is too great, the clamping effect of the spring ball will be ineffective.

Properties of our self-retaining T-slot nuts

A slot nut with a spring ball basically consists of two core elements. On the one hand, there is the internal thread to hold the threaded screw, as is also the case with simple slot nuts. Next to it, there is a small steel ball that is pushed outwards by a small spring. This ensures that the slot nut is held securely in position within the slot. It can still be moved without any problems, provided that the slot has the appropriate depth. This process is also known from reversible ratchets, where the spring lock prevents the socket nuts from simply coming loose from the square socket. The design-related width of the T-Slot Nut means that it can only be inserted into the profile from the side, but it also has the advantage that the contact area with the profile is almost three times larger than with a simple T-Slot Nut that is inserted into the profile through the open groove. This also results in a significantly better distribution of the tensile and shear load. The slot nuts are made of solid carbon steel, a high-strength material that is ideal for secure and resilient fastenings.

The nickel coating serves two purposes. Firstly, it significantly improves resistance to corrosion in humid conditions, meaning that the fasteners can also be used for constructions in damp rooms such as bathrooms, saunas and swimming pools, as well as in outdoor areas. Secondly, it considerably reduces the risk of contact corrosion, which can occur when steel and aluminium are in direct contact. Furthermore, the slot nut has an attractive surface with a fine lustre, even though it is usually hidden from view after installation.

T-slot nuts are available in countless shapes and variants, so it is important to take a closer look at the dimensions of the T-slots of construction profiles and T-slot nuts. This is particularly important for T-Slot Nuts with spring ball, so that the spring-loaded ball is sufficiently fixed within the profile. Our T-Slot Nuts are matched to our construction profiles. However, these, like all other components, are compatible with I-System profiles. So, our T-Slot Nuts with spring ball can also be combined with most profiles from other manufacturers.

Installation and use of slot nuts

T-Slot Nuts multiply the possibilities for construction profiles. While simple T-Slot Nuts are more than sufficient for simple fastenings, T-Slot Nuts with spring balls serve the purpose of not simply slipping within the profile slot and also providing better load distribution due to the larger contact surface, so that even heavier components can be attached to the profile without fear of deformation. The installation of brackets, attachments, cover plates, etc. is comparable to that of conventional slot nuts, with the only difference being that the larger slot nut has to be inserted sideways into the slot, whereas a conventional slot nut can be inserted and turned through the open slot.

The internal thread of the slot nuts is used to hold threaded screws. Depending on the attachment part, you need to check whether the screw needs to have a countersunk head or a cylinder head. Our hinges or one-sided rounded mounting brackets require countersunk head screws. For all other brackets and profile connectors that are attached with sliding nuts, cylinder head screws are more suitable. The length of the screw should be chosen so that it can be screwed sufficiently into the thread of the sliding nut, but not so long that it reaches the profile on the inside.

NOTE: The slot nuts are wider than conventional slot nuts and must therefore be inserted into the slot through an open end of the construction profile.
