Our robust hinges made of high-quality die-cast zinc are available in three different sizes, whose dimensions are perfectly matched to construction profiles with a profile width of 20mm, 30mm or 40mm with a centrally located groove. In contrast to plastic hinges made of polyamide, the metal hinges made of rustproof die-cast zinc are also suitable for long-term outdoor use. They are mounted on construction profiles using simple slot nuts or slot nuts with spring balls and threaded screws with countersunk heads, which are also included in our standard delivery and can be ordered at the same time if required. The hinges can also be used as door, window and gate hinges and can also be screwed directly onto wooden or metal beams and posts using suitable fasteners.
The metal hinges are very strong, which has a particularly positive effect on the load-bearing capacity, so that even larger doors and flaps can be made with them. The rustproof hinges are also very suitable for foldable privacy screens on patios and balconies or for indoor room dividers. The attractive silver colour with a subtle metallic effect not only goes perfectly with our silver anodised construction profiles, but also gives the furniture hinge an extremely high-quality and elegant look, regardless of whether it is used with single-colour white panels, coloured panels or panels in a wood or trendy concrete look.
NOTE: To attach the hinges to the structural profile, T-Slot Nuts and countersunk head screws are required, which are fastened with an Allen® key. The size of the T-Slot Nuts varies, as does the thread length of the screws, depending on the selected profile design.
Our metal hinges are available in three different sizes to match our construction profiles with 20mm, 30mm or 40mm edge width. With our optionally available mounting material, they can be quickly and easily attached to the groove profile using a standard Allen key. The silver hinges owe their appealing colour, which blends perfectly with the aluminium-silver surfaces of construction profiles, to the fact that they are made of high-quality die-cast zinc. This is an extremely corrosion-resistant metal alloy that, in contrast to the simpler hinges made of black polyamide, also allows for use in outdoor areas. In addition, the metal hinge is significantly stronger at higher weight loads. The weatherproof hinges are therefore particularly suitable for attaching doors to canopies, covered parking spaces or small greenhouses.
We offer the solid metal hinges in three different versions, with dimensions in terms of width and height designed so that they fit perfectly with the profile surface of our construction profiles in the appropriate size and allow a wide opening angle of approx. 270°. Both hinge wings are provided with two mounting holes that have a 45° countersink so that flush mounting with countersunk head screws ensures complete closure of the hinge. The distance between the two mounting holes is chosen so that the load is optimally distributed and the risk of breakage when screwing plastic plates or wood-based materials is also reduced to a minimum when mounting directly. The diameter of the holes is also chosen so that the thickness of the screws corresponds to the possible load. This is about 5mm for the small hinge and about 6mm for the two larger ones, so we recommend a threaded screw of size M5 or M6, or wood screws with a thread diameter of 4.5 or 5.5mm. When mounting on construction profiles, the maximum thread length results from the depth of the respective profile. For the small hinge, we recommend a thread length of 10mm. For the 30mm hinge and the 40mm hinge, the length of the threaded screw should ideally be 16mm. The T-Slot Nuts should be selected according to the width of the groove. The internal thread of the T-Slot Nut should be selected to match the thread of the screw.
NOTE: The hinges do not necessarily have to be used with our construction profiles, but can also be combined with almost all system profiles, regardless of the type. In individual cases, however, the recommended assembly material must be adapted to the groove width and groove depth of the profile. In addition, the hinges can also be used in furniture construction or in wall mounting. Here, too, the fasteners must be adapted to the intended use. When selecting the countersunk head screws, it is particularly important to ensure that the thread diameter and the outer head diameter are neither too small nor too large.
Our die-cast zinc hinges are perfectly matched to our construction profiles in terms of size and design. With slot nuts and countersunk head screws, movable constructions can be built at any time and doors, covers and flaps can be retrofitted. The slot nuts, the size of which should be matched to the slot width of the system profile, should have an internal thread of size M4 or M5 for the smaller hinge and larger for the larger hinge. The screw length should also correspond to this thread size and be 10mm or 16mm in length. The hinge has two mounting holes on each side, so that, depending on the mounting configuration, two or four screws and sliding blocks are required to ensure a secure and torsion-resistant mounting on the construction profile. The easiest way is to pre-assemble the sliding block and screw and insert them into the groove together with the hinge, then tighten them with a suitable Allen® key. To do this, thread the screws through the inner side of the hinge, which has two pronounced countersunk holes, and screw the slot nut slightly onto the screw thread. Then turn both slot nuts so that they are perpendicular to the hinge to ensure insertion into the open slot of the profile. Once both sliding blocks are inserted into the groove, they can be tightened by turning them clockwise. If the position of the hinge is not perfect, the two screws can be loosened slightly and the hinge can be moved within the groove as desired, without leaving any damage or visible marks on the profile. For the second wing of the hinge, the above assembly steps are to be repeated if a construction profile is to be attached here as well. When installing panel materials or screwing to the wall, on wood or metal, the mounting surface may need to be prepared by drilling holes and the mounting material may need to be selected accordingly.
The solid metal hinges impress with their high load-bearing capacity. To prevent them from twisting under the effect of load on the mounting surface, two mounting holes are provided, with an optimally selected distance between them to ensure torsional rigidity within the groove and to distribute the load optimally on the profile surface. The same applies when used as a furniture hinge. Here, too, the two holes have the advantage that the hinges do not twist and, in addition, the risk of the screws breaking out in the wood is significantly reduced. It ensures significantly greater durability, especially with heavier cupboard doors or when mounting on inexpensive chipboard.
TIP: Inserting sliding blocks is a little tricky on vertical construction profiles, as they can slide down. There are two ways to make installation easier. Either use a sliding block as a limit, or screw the countersunk head screws through the mounting holes of the hinge a little into the two sliding blocks and then insert them together with the hinge into the groove profile.
The robust metal hinges are ideal for doors, windows, flaps and folding constructions made of aluminium profiles for indoor and outdoor use and are therefore perfect for greenhouse windows and doors, as well as doors for bicycle and waste bin shelters, but also for opening flaps of pump covers for garden pools, for which our construction profiles are all well suited. The solid hinges can also be used in furniture making or in interior design, screwed directly onto wood, for example to attach a roof hatch to a wooden beam that allows access to the attic. However, it should be noted that different screws with countersunk heads are required for mounting on wood, steel or plastic.
