With our blog post all about renovating with modern finishes and trendy designs, we would like to give a few small ideas on how you can change the look & feel of your rooms with little effort.
Life usually takes place mainly in the living room in most households. Therefore, everyone is tempted to make this room as presentable and beautiful as possible. But the feel-good climate of a room is also enormously influenced by its design. Therefore, we pay attention to this room first and foremost.
Our televisions are getting bigger and thinner. In return, our furniture in the living room is becoming more and more discreet, and so low shelves are currently in vogue. The TV set, on the other hand, is often mounted directly on the wall. Sometimes, however, this doesn't look so great because of the cabling. A shallow front wall not only hides the tangled cables effectively, but also makes for a purely visual eye-catcher.
The creation of the porch wall is relatively simple. The wooden frame (simple wooden slats of approx. 60mm * 40mm are sufficient here) is attached to the wall by screwing it on. Standard OSB boards are screwed onto this substructure with simple wood screws. The OSB boards should be approx. 7 cm larger than the frame to which they are attached. The LED tube (or a self-adhesive LED strip with remote control and colour change) is later attached to this protrusion in order to achieve a beautiful decentralised lighting. The OSB panels can be covered with our DecoVitas decor panels, for example, or you can glue our high-quality aluminium composite panels directly onto the wooden panel. With our mounting adhesive Parabond 600, the bonding of aluminium composite panels is possible without problems on almost all substrates.
Careful planning of the substructure is important!
Eventual cabling for the TV set can easily be laid behind the front wall and, assuming the appropriate expertise, sockets can also be fitted in the front wall in such a way that they are covered by the TV set. When installing a TV wall bracket, make sure that the substructure is sufficiently fastened to bear the load of the TV set, because screwing it into the OSB boards alone cannot safely withstand the sometimes quite high weight.
With our decorative panels, however, you can not only transform a porch wall into a high-gloss surface that catches your eye, because even old living room furniture, for example cupboards, can be upgraded in no time with our DecoVitas© decorative panels thanks to their self-adhesive back. The same applies to our aluminium composite panels. However, it should be noted that these have a thickness of 3mm, which may mean that cupboard doors, in particular, can no longer be opened fully. Here, the functionality should be checked beforehand by simply creating a sample piece.
The biggest problem in many bathrooms are the old tiles in the beautiful colours that were still totally trendy at the time. You could call it a vintage look today, but for most, the ageing wall tiles are more of a horror. However, tearing down the old tiles and installing new modern tiles is a real challenge that only very few people can do without experts. Not only is it a lot of work, but it also creates a lot of dust throughout the house and the old rubble has to be disposed of. Depending on the size of the bathroom, the work of a tiler can be quite expensive for some people and can cost as much as a small car. In addition, the bathroom will be unusable for days.
But there is another way - easier - faster - cheaper - more modern.
With the DecoVitas 3 mm thick aluminium composite panels, bathroom renovation is quite easy. The walls, shower area and ceiling can all be lined in the same way. The panels mentioned above are waterproof and can be used in the bathroom without hesitation. A particular advantage for the shower is the seamless lining. This prevents the formation of mould and the surface can be cleaned very easily.
The tiles can be glued directly to the old tiles, or to the ceiling, using our Montage adhesive Parabond 600. The back of the DecoVitas decor panels should be lightly roughened by sanding before gluing to ensure perfect adhesion. The colours white and the brushed aluminium surface look are particularly popular. Alu composite panels in brushed aluminium can also be found in our online shop in millimetre-precise cuts. Of course, we also carry matching silicones in white or aluminium silver (and many other colours) for sealing edges or butt joints.
When renovating, you should pay special attention to the windows, because windows, or rather leaky windows, are responsible for high energy costs due to heat loss. It doesn't matter whether the window has double or triple glazing, because it's the window frames and their tightness that matter.
For old wooden windows, the only option is usually to replace them completely, as they warp over the years and, depending on their age, also lack seals.
In modern windows with aluminium profiles or plastic profiles, you should regularly check the seals for tightness. To do this, it is sufficient to look through the seals visually. You will be able to see a flat contact surface along the seal, this should be continuous. If you find chipping, cracks or defective areas on the seals, you should replace the window seal. A good option is to close the window with a sheet of paper stuck through to the outside. If the sheet of paper cannot be pulled in when the window is closed, the seal is OK. If, on the other hand, there are places where you can move the sheet by pulling it, the window should be adjusted. Your trusted window fitter can help you with this for a small fee.
Window reveals can best be clad with DecoVitas©. The DecoVitas© decor panels contain a self-adhesive on the back and can thus be easily stuck on. However, make sure that the substrate is clean, grease-free and firm. Thanks to the high-gloss surface, a high-quality look is achieved within a few minutes and can be easily cleaned with a wet cloth if necessary. This is particularly important for rented flats: When moving out, it is usually necessary to restore the flat to its original condition. However, this is no problem with our DecoVitas; decor panels, because they can be easily removed by peeling them off if necessary or if a new look is desired. Any residue from the adhesive foil can be easily removed with soap and water or with a hairdryer.

Most roller shutter boxes are not insulated against heat loss and there is plenty of potential for energy cost savings here. It doesn't always have to be an elaborate insulation box, because you can work wonders with the relatively simple stuff from the DIY store. All you need are a few inexpensive polystyrene sheets and some building foam. First, seal the rough joints around the roller shutter box with building foam. In the second and last step, the surfaces are lined with the Strypor sheets, which can easily be cut to size with a cutter knife.
Note, however, that you line the roller shutter box with the roller shutters retracted. With the roller shutters extended, there is a high risk that you will stick on too much polystyrene and drag the roller shutters against it.
Once and again, the roller shutter cover confronts owners with the question of how and of what material it should be made. The answer is quite simple: aluminium composite panels!
The panels, made in sandwich construction, consist of a plastic core (polyethylene) with aluminium cover layers on both sides. This makes the panels robust, rigid and yet comparatively light, with a total thickness of just 3mm. The installation of a roller shutter cover made of aluminium composite panels is very simple, because it is sufficient to screw on the panel and seal it all around with acrylic. Afterwards, the entire construction can be painted with conventional paint. The 3mm step is very well concealed with acrylic and at the same time the box is completely sealed. We recommend additionally lining the lid with 10mm polystyrene in the area of the opening.
