Our black plastic hinges for construction profiles are made of polyamide, which is characterised by a multitude of positive material properties. Particularly, it includes high impact strength and resilience. We also offer the hinges in three versions to match the aluminium profiles, which we stock in three sizes. Profile systems are so popular because they are very easy to process and assemble and can be adapted to changing needs at any time. This also applies to the plastic hinges, which can be combined with almost any construction profile with the appropriate profile width, because the optionally available slot nuts and mounting on the profile surface mean that they can be attached, moved or removed at any time without damaging the profile.
The plastic hinges combine very low weight with high stability and load-bearing capacity. In addition to their use as hinges on construction profiles, the alternative uses are very diverse. For example, the lightweight door hinges are also very suitable for use in furniture construction, for the construction of containers, as well as in drywall construction for the integration of inspection openings and maintenance flaps.
NOTE: The necessary mounting material varies depending on the design and quantity for the specific intended use, so we have decided not to offer this in a set. To mount the hinge, sliding blocks and threaded screws with countersunk heads are required to attach them to the corresponding construction profiles. These are available in our shop in any quantity at affordable bulk prices.
The black plastic hinges, which we offer in three sizes to match our S-Polytec system profiles, are made of high-quality polyamide. This technical plastic is an extremely wear-resistant and impact-resistant material that is also characterised by a very long service life, even under increased loads. Polyamide (PA6), which is probably better known to most under the brand name Nylon®, is only partially UV-resistant, so we recommend the plastic hinge more for indoor or protected outdoor applications. For long-term outdoor use, we also offer metal hinges made of rustproof die-cast zinc.
The dimensions of the plastic hinges are designed in width and height so that when closed, it optimally aligns with the profile surface of the corresponding construction profiles and allows for wide opening. The size of the mounting holes, of which there are two on each hinge wing, as well as their distance from each other, is matched to the slot width and the load capacities of the profiles. The loads for the small hinge for 20mm profiles are significantly lower than for larger profile versions, so that a hole diameter of 5mm with a countersink of Ø7.5mm is perfectly adequate. A hole spacing of 14mm ensures that the hinge cannot twist after installation and that opening and closing always remains easy. The recommended mounting material for attachment to construction profiles, consisting of four countersunk head screws in size M5x10mm and also four slot nuts in slot 6 with M5 internal thread, ensures that the screw head is flush with the surface of the hinge and that there is sufficient screw-in depth in the slot nut. The same applies to the two larger plastic hinges. Since the construction profiles are correspondingly larger and more stable, the recommended screws and sliding blocks are also larger. With a thread diameter of 6mm and a thread length of 16mm, the screws provide optimal hold in an 8mm sliding block. Two mounting holes, arranged at a distance of 30mm, also ensure that the mounted hinges are secured against twisting under higher loads. Even with heavy doors and covers, the hinges always remain at an exact angle in the profile groove.
NOTE: The recommended mounting material refers to the respective profile sizes of our construction profiles. However, this does not mean that the plastic hinges cannot be combined with system profiles from other manufacturers and brands. However, in individual cases, the specified sizes for screws and slot nuts may not be applicable and may need to be adapted to the slot depth and width of the existing profile. If, on the other hand, the hinge is not to be attached to the construction profiles and instead screwed directly to the wall, furniture or cupboard doors, suitable fastening solutions must also be used here. Particular attention should be paid to the thread and head diameter of the countersunk head screws so that they fit exactly into the countersink and are neither too small nor too large.
Connecting two profiles with the hinges, as well as connecting panel materials to a construction profile, is very easy. Assuming the desired cut of the panel or profiles, all that is required is a simple screwdriver, which is common in every household. In the first step, the desired position of the hinges should be determined and marked on the profile with a pencil. Then two slot nuts are inserted into the profile with the help of a screw and turned 90 degrees clockwise so that they fit perfectly on the inside of the profile with the two grooved mounting surfaces. Once this is done, the screw can be removed from the slot nut and screwed back into the internal thread of the slot nut through an assembly hole in the hinge. Before the two screws are screwed in until the necessary strength is reached, the position of the hinge should be checked again to ensure it is correct.
If a construction profile is also mounted on the opposite side, the assembly is carried out in the same way. Here, too, it should be ensured that the position is correct before tightening the screws. If this is not the case, the screws can be loosened a little at any time to move the hinges within the groove of the profile without leaving visible marks on the surface of the profile. If, on the other hand, a plate made of aluminium, steel, plastic or wood is to be used and attached to the hinge in the push-through mounting, slot nuts are not suitable. It may also be necessary to mark the position of the mounting holes on the plate before drilling the holes at these points. With our countersunk head tapping screws, which we offer in many different lengths, the right screw can be selected for any panel thickness for use with a flange nut for fastening. When screwing directly into the panel material, a suitable countersunk head screw must also be used.
The four mounting points, two of which are arranged on each hinge wing, help to prevent twisting within the profile groove and also ensure a high degree of rigidity and stability of the construction, even if a cover plate is screwed directly onto the hinge. The distance is chosen so that the load is optimally distributed over the height and width of the hinge. In addition, when screwing onto wood, for example an MDF board as a housing cover or cabinet door, the hole spacing ensures a high level of security against break-outs.
TIP: If the hinges are used as door hinges in a construction profile, this is usually done on the vertically running profile. The easiest way to do this is to pre-assemble the mounting hardware. In this way, the hinge, together with the screws and sliding blocks, is guided to the profile, the sliding block is simultaneously inserted into the profile groove and turned 90° with the screw so that it is jammed in the groove. Finally, the screws are tightened until the hinge is firmly seated on the profile and can reliably support the necessary weight.
Hinges are used in countless areas and the plastic hinges can be used for just as many. It does not matter whether they are attached to a construction profile or used in some other way. Possible areas of application for construction profiles include doors and machine covers, but also maintenance accesses and inspection flaps for large industrial plants, which are constructed from the versatile system profiles. Even lids on transport cases, doors on homemade outdoor kitchens or modular seating furniture with fold-down backrests or tables can be made with these robust hinges in just a few simple steps. Alternatively, the plastic hinges can also be used as replacements for broken furniture hinges, to repair suitcases, as weight-saving hinges for doors and flaps in the interior of camping vehicles and much more.
