The threaded sleeve in dusty grey (RAL 7037) is made of corrosion-resistant A2 steel, the head of which has a scratch-resistant powder coating that matches the colour and gloss level of our dusty grey HPL panels in the cut. The diameter of the painted head with Torx drive is 14mm. The diameter of the sleeve, which has an M5 internal thread, is 8mm. Due to the sleeve depth of 12mm, a profile or panel thickness of at least 12mm is required so that the sleeve can be fully countersunk. The dust grey sleeves are mainly used for balcony cladding with HPL. Here, reliable securing against self-loosening is required, which is ensured with the threaded sleeve by a special 2-component thread adhesive.

NOTE: In addition to the threaded sleeves in dusty grey, we also offer dusty grey balcony screws with M5 threads in various lengths, whose colour and gloss level match exactly. Alternatively, the unpainted screws can also be used, as well as all other painted balcony screws. It does not even have to be our balcony screws, as long as the screw is a threaded screw with M5 thread.

If cladding panels are fixed to substructures with balcony threaded bolts and simple nuts or closed cap nuts, they protrude clearly. With our stainless steel cap nut, this results in a protrusion of 14mm. This can definitely be perceived as annoying, so a threaded sleeve is a very good alternative due to the flat screw head with a thickness of around 2mm. The prerequisite for this is that the panels are mounted on a square profile with a minimum depth of 12mm. The flatter design is also a great advantage when screwing machine components, floor coverings of trailers and transporters or when connecting furniture and cabinets.

Properties of the dust grey stainless steel threaded sleeve

The threaded sleeves consist of a sleeve and a sleeve head, which are manufactured in solid stainless steel construction. The flat head, which is slightly lenticular on the top, has an outer diameter of 14mm and reliably covers the slightly enlarged 8.5mm bore without having too small a contact surface. The sleeve itself has an outer diameter of 8mm and an internal thread in the M5 thread size. The depth of the thread corresponds to the depth of the sleeve, which is 12mm. The modern hexagon socket drive, which is also known as a Torx drive, makes screwing effortless, because no pressure needs to be exerted on the screwdriver to prevent it from spinning and possibly damaging the drive or the dust-grey paintwork. For this purpose a Torx wrench or bit insert size T20 (ISR20) is required. Without countering the threaded sleeve, it is almost impossible to screw in the screw, because due to the thread adhesive, the internal thread of the sleeve is somewhat narrowed, so that the sleeve turns with it.

The thread locker consists of a special two-component adhesive and serves as a screw lock so that the screw connection does not loosen over time due to shocks or vibrations. Especially for fall protection on balconies, balustrades or stairways, a permanently secure fastening is very important. An absolutely reliable screw connection is ensured by a 2-component thread locker in which the hardener is contained in microscopically small glass bodies that burst when the screw is screwed into the thread, thereby initiating the process of chemical hardening.

The head lacquering of the threaded sleeve consists of a scratch-resistant powder coating in dusty grey (RAL 7037), which is characterised by very good UV and weather resistance, so that the rich grey tone is not affected by external environmental influences. In terms of colour and gloss level, this, like our balcony screws or façade screws, is exactly matched to the surface decor of our dusty grey HPL sheets when cut to size, which allows the sheets to be installed as inconspicuously as possible. Due to the colouring according to the RAL colour system of the K5 Classic colour chart, the threaded sleeves and screws are also perfectly suitable for the colour-matched installation of all other materials that correspond to this RAL colour.

NOTE: In some areas of application, reliable protection is required to prevent a screw connection from loosening by itself. This is ensured by a 2-component adhesive inside the threaded sleeve. If the threaded sleeve is loosened, a special thread locking varnish must be used to renew the thread locking. Alternatively, it is also possible to replace the old threaded sleeve with a new one.

Use of threaded sleeve in dust grey

The threaded sleeve in dust grey is absolutely identical to the dust grey balcony screws in terms of the head finish. We stock these in different lengths with an M5 thread, so that an inconspicuous installation of our HPL panels in dusty grey is guaranteed. It is precisely for this purpose, namely cladding of balcony railings and staircases, that the threaded sleeves are most frequently used. However, the possible areas of application are far more diverse. The prerequisite is that the threaded sleeve with an insertion depth of 12mm can be fully inserted into the profile or a board, beam or cabinet body, resulting in a minimum thickness of 12mm for one of the elements to be connected. The hole for this must be drilled with an 8.5mm drill bit, which should be chosen to match the material. A thick beam does not have to be drilled completely in this size. It is sufficient to limit the depth of the hole to at least 12 mm. However, the beam must still be drilled through so that the screw can pass through. A drill with a nominal diameter of 5.5 mm is the best choice here..

In contrast to fastening with balcony bolts and a cap nut or hexagon nut, where these are screwed onto the thread, so that the screw must be longer than the total thickness of the workpieces to be joined, the internal thread of the sleeve is located inside one of the two components to be screwed together, resulting in a shorter screw. Thus, up to 5mm must be added to the clamping range. The clamping range, which gives information about the total thickness of boards and profiles, can be calculated by adding at least 1 mm to a maximum of 5 mm to the thread length. For a balcony screw in M5x20mm, this results in a clamping range of 21mm to 25mm.
